SMC Corporation of America has released version 3.0 of their convenient Model Selection Software.

The application can be run right from the www.smcworld.com site, and allows users to input their pneumatic system requirements and see an output of the system characteristics, along with recommended product series right down to the basic part number. By considering initial cost as well as operating costs, the software also selects equipment that minimizes the total cost of the pneumatic system.

For more complex models, version 3.0 of the Model Selection Software allows users to simulate circuits with multiple cylinders and multiple valves. The software also provides dynamic system characteristics such as displacement, velocity, acceleration and system pressure.

The GSU series represents a new generation of pneumatic linear drives from Rexroth. Excellent guiding qualities within a small unit make the GSU a versatile standard module in handling technology.

The new slide unit can be used in gantries as an X-axis or as a work piece pallet in material supply. The rodless construction makes the unit particularly compact and optimizes machine design. With a speed of up to 1.5 m/s (4.9 ft/s), this drive enables short cycle times. Standard guides ensure high rigidity and precise slide guiding. The name is a good start: GSU stands for Guided Slide Unit.

The GSU series is available in two diameters: 16 mm and 25 mm. The end stops can be finely adjusted, a feature which allows for multiple positions with a single unit and simplifies construction. Diverse connection options allow for extremely flexible installation. Air connections may be used on either the sides or the front.

In order to optimize construction space, all air connections and sensors can be placed on one side.

The drive comes standard-equipped with an elastic shock absorber. PT-AP 70 - New Servo Gripper Provides Sensitive Flexible Control

SCHUNK Precision Workholding Solutions has introduced the new PT-AP70 servo actuated gripper. The PT-AP70 was specifically designed to make difficult components such as glass, foam or sand molds easy to manage. The direct current servomotor is coupled to a gear driven ball bearing spindle. The fingers are guided with low friction linear bearings to allow ultra sensitive fully controllable actuation. Grip force, stroke and actuation acceleration can be dynamically controlled or controlled by pre-programmed parameters downloaded to the gripper. In contrast to pneumatically actuated units, the servo actuation is fully flexible.
The gripper has 70 mm of total stroke with the capability to produce 200N (45lbf) of grip force to accommodate a wide variety of work pieces. The guaranteed system repeatability is less than +/- 0.05 mm with an overall weight of 0.9Kg (2.0lbs). Many communication options are available: CAN-bus, RS232, or Profibus-DP. Easy-2-Combine - The New Automation System from Rexroth

Directly combinable individual components simplify handling tasks with small parts. Providing customers with modular solutions for common handling processes is the central idea of the new Easy-2-Combine automation system.

New Compact and Modular Vacuum Pump with Built-in Control Functions for More Efficient and Reliable Handling of Objects

Based upon PIAB’s patented COAX� ejector technology, the P3010 AVM� is a mini-sized compact, compressed air driven vacuum unit that boasts of multiple integrated control functions. PIAB’s P3010 AVM is ideal for highly automated manufacturing processes where robots are used in handling of metal sheets, boards and plastic items in a variety of industries. 

PIAB’s P3010 AVM features two built-in vacuum switches for more efficient and reliable handling of objects. These vacuum switches are used to send a ready-signal when the object to be handled is gripped, and a signal to activate the energy-saving function. The P3010 AVM unit also has a valve for start/stop of the pump, plus a blow-off valve that makes it possible to release the objects much faster while also cleaning the vacuum pipe. The ON/OFF valve is offered in two versions: normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). 

The modular design of the P3010 AVM, which measures 4.0 x 0.7 x 6.3 in., allows for the installation of several units together and connection accessories. The P3010 AVM’s ejector housing is made of anodized aluminum, and the complete unit has a safety classification of IP65. The recommended feed pressure is 45 psi. The air consumption is quite low at 1.0-2.0 scfm (two sizes) at the recommended feed pressure, while the suctioned volume of air is up to three times larger (3.0-6.0 scfm). The P3010 AVM has a very reliable function throughout the range of 25 to 87 psi, which is a great advantage as fluctuations in existing compressed-air piping are quite common.

Rexroth Introduces RWT Pneumatic Index Table for Automation Applications 

The new Rexroth RWT index table combines proven Rexroth mechanical and pneumatic drives with small dimensions and a flat, circular design, ideal for use in compact automation systems.

The RWT index table offers accurate positioning by continuous stepwise rotation instead of forward and backward motion. A typical application of the index table includes indexing a workpiece requiring four, six or eight processes, resulting in favorable manufacturing flexibility.

A double-acting, piston-type ratchet and gear mechanism provide accuracy up to +/-0.2 degrees, and the table has a useful plane-mounting surface with threaded mounting holes and locating dowels for precision and strength. Its flat design and high torque also enhance the big performance of this small device.

The RWT index table is available in six different step versions that are also prepared for inductive sensors. The series includes 45-degree, 60-degree or 90-degree index angles with rotation to the right or left.

The Guided Pneumatic Cylinder (GPC) by Rexroth is equipped with two rigid guide rods supported by either slide bearings or ball bearings, which guarantees a high level of stability.

The main benefits provided by the guided cylinder are high force, precise movement, high side load capacity and anti-rotation combined in the same product. This means easier design and building of machines by reducing the need for external guides. Other features are soft end position resulting in low noise. The magnetic piston means easy sensing of position. Moreover, the GPC has numerous mounting possibilities. A unique advantage is the possibility to directly combine two GPC cylinders to a two-axis system without any adapter plate. The next smaller size GPC mounts directly on the front plate of the larger cylinder.

Typical applications are material handling systems, where high side-load capacity and precision motion are a must, and general application with side load or anti-rotation needs, such as stopping or clamping, where a standard cylinder is too weak. The GPC is also well suited as a carrier of grippers, suction cups and other fixtures and tooling.

The GPC cylinder is available in eight different diameters between 12 and 63 millimeters as well as stroke lengths of up to 200 millimeters. Pneumatic Part Present Sensing from Rexroth for Reliable Process Accuracy

The new Rexroth MS01 pneumatic part present sensing system offers precise measuring accuracy up to 0.01mm.

Automatic feeding and processing of work pieces quite often relies on exact positioning of the parts. Rexroth has developed a pneumatic modular system to monitor part presence that fulfills the strictest user demands in terms of technology, user-friendliness, and size. 

The new compact system controls the presence, position, shape, and dimensions of test objects. The object is scanned using an air jet from a sensor nozzle. Simultaneous evaluation of the previously defined pressure sends an output to the user in the form of electrical signals. These signals are processed by the machine control system and displayed on the module. 

The control system either releases the work piece for processing or stops the process. This contributes immensely to improving the quality of the test object, but it also avoids errors, thus saving time and money.

Setting a productive pace

The HSP High-Speed Picker from Festo quickly reins in costs for handling and assembly technology. With high cycle rates and intelligent stroke adjustment, the
new Pick & Place shortens production times and improves economic efficiency.

A handling module steps on the gas: At clock frequencies ranging from 0.6 to 1 second, the high-speed picker combines horizontal travel and vertical stroke, including a rest position, into a single unit. The link-rod driven Pick & Place unit is thus the fastest pneumatic handling module available from the market. Increased output rates of up to 100 parts per minute and 20 % shorter cycle times make it a specialist for handling small parts with typical work piece loads of less than 100 grams. Whether it's used for simple insertion and removal tasks at rotary indexing table, or for sorting tasks at transfer systems - thanks to its compact design, the High-Speed picker keeps the pace even in the tightest of spaces. Y-axis can be set independently of each other. An additional stroke adjustment along the Z-axis enables the independent height offset between Pick & Place Positions. Level differences between rotary indexing tables and transfer systems can thus be quickly and easily bypassed.

Norgren's new multi position airless cylinder delivers precision and control

Littleton, Colorado, USA - April 2004. Norgren, the motion and fluid control specialists, has extended its range of actuator solutions with the launch of its new multi position airless cylinder. With precision at the heart of the design, the new electric actuator complements Norgren's existing range of pneumatic cylinders, thus allowing even more customers to benefit from the competitive advantage that Norgren builds into its engineering solutions. 

With the capability to move loads up to 22 pounds (11Kg) the multi position airless cylinder operates at very high speeds and is fully programmable to deliver high stroke accuracies. This makes the actuator ideal for inclusion in applications that require high speeds combined with multiple position operation such as high speed insertion equipment in the packaging and semiconductor manufacturing sector, automatic test/inspection, printing and medical industries.

Featuring the capability to store multiple stroke end points each with its own defined speed, acceleration and force parameters, the positions can be programmed anywhere in the stroke range. The system can be run in different modes: using a programmable controller's I/O modules or from an optional fieldbus connection. For set-up and tests the multi position airless cylinder may automatically run a stored program. This makes the device ideal for a large machine with PLCs, industrial computers and for smaller machines with limited I/O capability.

The airless cylinder requires one electrical connection to operate and can be disabled from the supply when not running thus conserving energy. Featuring no mechanical connection between the moving mass and the stationary mass the airless cylinder features extremely long life and product reliability. The movement is produced by the interaction of two magnetic fields, one field from permanent magnets in the slider and the second field produced by electric current in the motor windings located in the stator. Unlike rotary motors either motor part can move if the other part is held fixed.

The programming of the cylinder is straightforward and intuitive. Desired positions are entered using a laptop or by 'teaching' the unit (moving it by hand and remembering the position). Guiding system information (weight, friction, motor parameters) is entered once and stored under a "module description". The operator does not have to enter this information. This method of programming means that the operator saves time and money when making product changeovers by simply retrieving a stored program.

New 3 Finger Gripper Delivers Higher Load Capacity And Longer Finger Capability

SCHUNK,Inc. has introduced a complete new series 3- finger concentric gripper � PZN-plus. Extending the
capabilities of the current industry standard PZN series, the “Plus� stands for even higher load capacities, longer finger capability and better efficiency.

The basis for this increase in efficiency on the PZN-plus is the newly designed jaw guidance. Forces and moments of the gripper - or acting on the gripper - are spread over several surfaces of a multiple-tooth guide, enabling finger length increases of up to 30%. Moment loading capability is greatly enhanced allowing higher external loads to be   applied without damage to the gripper or problems with operation. The actuation mechanism is based on the proven double wedge principal. The size of the wedge was increased compared to the standard PZN to assure absolute reliability even under the increased loads. The LIRAX systems operate telescopically, pneumatically

traverse forces up to 720N (160lbf) to handle heavy payloads.

The housing of the unit is made of extruded aluminum to
reduce weight, allowing for increased traverse speed.
Integrated hydraulic shock absorbers ensure fluid end
positioning, payload stability and positioning accuracy. Three
bore sizes are available from 18 mm to 40 mm with various
strokes up to 600 mm. The stroke is adjustable throughout
the range. Integrated sensors provide constant monitoring.

The internal air and electrical feed though further enhance
reliability, overall size and packaging. End mounted tooling is
powered with the 4 fold air feed through. Sensing for the tooling
is easily connected with 12 pole electrical feed through. This
feature additionally reduces cost at installation by simplifying air

Hingham,MA,—PIAB, a manufacturer of industrial vacuum products for over 30
years, showcases its Vacuum Gripper System (VGS�3010) at Assembly Technology
Expo in Rosemont, IL. The VGS 3010 is an
expansion to PIAB's COAX� technology and makes for more efficient material
handling in decentralized vacuum systems.

The VGS 3010 features a suction cup and an efficient multi-stage air driven vacuum
pump integrated in a single unit, called a "Gripper." This avoids the problems
inherent to traditional vacuum systems with a centrally located vacuum pump. A
traditional vacuum system installation takes into account possible pressure loss. The
VGS 3010 avoids this problem of pressure loss because the pump and suction cup are
integrated. The VGS 3010 can even function at operating pressures below 45 psi. This
increases reliability in case of a breakdown in the air pressure network.

The suction cups are made from specially developed polyurethane named
DURAFLEX�. These suction cups adhere to many surfaces and can grip both porous,
leaky materials, such as corrugated as well as coarse and curved surfaces. The suction
cups in the Vacuum Gripper System are available in sizes from 1.5" to 4.5"diameters.

The Vacuum Gripper System is modularly constructed and the suction cups (with
molded fittings) are easily replaceable.

In case of rapid movement, transverse loads arise that can break loose suction cups.
Traditional vacuum systems are often equipped with extra suction cups to compensate
for this loss of vacuum, which increases system cost and energy expenditure. PIAB's
new concept features an accessory called a "Stabilizer" that can be fitted around the
suction cup for support during lifts. This prevents the suction cup from coming loose,
thereby retaining lifting force. The "Stabilizer" also helps hard-to-handle objects with
vacuum.

Balluff Introduces Lifetime Warranty on Entire Pneumatic Cylinder Sensor Line

Due to the reliability and robustness of its
magnetoresistive technology, Balluff has extended lifetime warranty coverage to its entire BMP cylinder sensor product line, designed to handle virtually any pneumatic end-of-stroke application.

"Magnetoresistive technology is inherently more suited for rugged factory applications than older Hall Effect or reed switch-based sensors," comments Balluff Product Manager Henry Menke. "Our magnetoresistive BMP line is a great

Rexroth Announces Two New Series of Pneumatic Rotary Actuators

The Rexroth RAN Series and RAP Series of pneumatic rotary actuators provide highly compact, space-saving designs.

Employing a vane-type principle, the RAN Series offers high torque within a small dimension, plus multiple front and side mount options for greater flexibility. The SV valve series features a modular design that allows modification of manifold stations by simply snapping them together. The design of pneumatic and electrical connections of the manifold provides a “Plug and Play� concept for building the manifolds.

Rated IP65 and CE compliant, the SV valves are offered in both serial interface and parallel wiring configuration. These units are particularly suitable for applications in semiconductor, food processing, automotive and metal working industries.

The SV valves have a life expectancy of 50 million cycles and are offered in four sizes, i.e. SV1000, SV2000, SV3000, and SV4000 with flow capacity ranging from 0.23Cv up to 1.6Cv. Dual 3 port valves in Series SV1000 and SV2000 allow individual control of A and B ports.

Compact I/P Transducer in an Explosion-Proof Housing 
Provides Solution for Use with Natural Gas Applications

AMHERST, NH, USA - May, 2003 -- ControlAir Inc. announces the introduction of the Type 950XP Explosion-Proof I/P (Current-to-Pressure) Transducer that is approved by Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Factory Mutual (FM) for use with natural gas. The Type 950XP approved for use with natural gas was designed as an option to deliver safe, reliable high performance for applications using sweet natural gas in the most hazardous environments.

The Type 950XP I/P Transducer converts an electrical current signal to a proportionally linear pneumatic output to actuate valves. Natural gas extraction and transport applications in remote locations often do not have access to compressed plant air for operation of pneumatic valve actuators. In this case, natural gas from the pipeline is used to supply the inlet pressure to the Type 950XP I/P Transducer that provides the output pressure used to drive control valves. The "Tapped Exhaust" option on the Type 950XP is used to connect piping which captures natural gas that vents from the unit and escorts it to a safe area, often away from the application, where it can be safely released as required. Its NEMA 4X (IP65) housing is designed for both Intrinsically Safe and Explosion-Proof operation. The Type 950XP has Factory Mutual (FM), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and Cenelec (European) approvals for explosion-proof applications. For applications using natural gas, the Type 950XP has been approved by FM and CSA. Advanced circuitry includes electronic feedback control for superior vibration protection and highly accurate output. In addition to accuracy of 0.10%, the Type 950XP also delivers low hysteresis, and excellent repeatability. This is performance that surpasses most control system requirements. Yet because it typically consumes only .05 SCFM (0.11m3/hr) of air in operation, it not only costs less to buy, it costs less to operate as well. This is an important consideration with the high value of natural gas and the environmental effects of releasing it into the atmosphere.

The Type 950XP I/P Transducer approved for use with natural gas is ideal for natural gas extraction and transport applications such as natural gas gathering stations, compressor stations, pipeline feed, and booster stations that are in remote locations and often do not have access to compressed plant air for operation of pneumatic valve actuators.

CPX Modular Electrical Terminal Consolidates Festo's Strength in Supporting Fieldbus Applications 

As a universal peripheral solution, designed specifically to serve as a means by which standard valve terminals can be interfaced directly to fieldbus systems, or to implement additional I/O capability in existing fieldbus installations, Festo's CPX modular electrical terminal offers the simplicity, convenience, and the versatility. The CPX system is based upon configurable modules, where different electrical functions and a pneumatic interface can be assembled to meet the requirements of a wide variety of applications.

 
Because the system is designed around multi-stage (sandwiched) modules for digital and analog I/O capability, Fieldbus interface, system linking (including power supply options), and pneumatic interface modules, (for the implementation of Festo's Type CPA, MIDI and MAXI valves), users of the CPX Terminal, benefit from its capability to service different interfaces for Fieldbus protocols. DeviceNet, Profibus-DP, Interbus, CANOpen, CC-Link, are among those protocols which are currently supported, with future aims at including Ethernet capability and Festo's Type FEC programmable Logic Controller.
The CPX system is constructed in sandwiched functional layers consisting of an interlinking (base) block, the electronics (intermediate) module, and a connection (top) block. The interlinking blocks support serial communications between modules, and separate power capabilities for electronics and sensors, and valves and actuators. 
An additional power supply can be ordered as an option, for example to separate the actuator power supply. Several connection blocks configurations facilitate implementation of different signal connection interface systems.

The Electronics modules are either analog or digital types, and both are designed to mount atop an interlinking block to form a highly concentrated I/O module. There are separate configurations for analog inputs and outputs, and this also holds true for digital I/O as well. 
Devices with standard analog interfaces, such as pressure switches, temperature and flow rate, filling level transducers can be monitored and controlled with the 0 to 10 Volt (0 to 20mA and 4 to 20mA) analog input module. The analog input module units (like all of the other I/O modules) can be parameterized to meet the needs of the application, including different data formats, Protection is achieved through integrated electronic fuse. 
The analog output module also controls devices with standard analog interfaces such as proportional valve, the analog output module, like the input unit, operates on 0 to 10 Volts (0 to 20mA or 4 to 20mA), and depending upon the connection block (user interface) numerous socket and connection options can be implemented.

Digital I/O is also handled by an independent module (multi-module available to combine both), with the sandwiched construction that runs true to the CPX Terminal's design concept. The digital input module allows the connection of two-wire and three-wire sensors, like proximity sensors, and inductive or capacitive sensors. 

Up to 8 inputs are possible (per module). All inputs are also parameterized via software, or in the future, a hand held tool. The CPX system provides point level diagnostics. 
The digital output module controls actuators such as individual valves in the application. Separate circuits are implemented in the output module with an additional power supply, which can be connected in parallel with the other supply to support devices that dissipate as much as 4 A. This module also operates on a 24-volt DC power supply and uses PNP logic, and is configured in the same fashion as the other CPX Terminal modules. A digital input/output (multi) module is also available for supporting devices with higher concentrations of I/O at a connection point. The fact that CPX I/O modules are designed for connection via M12 (5- or 8-pin), M8 (3-pin), Sub-D, Harax and terminal connections a wide range of coil and sensor control configurations can be achieved. With its Sub-D configuration, the multi module is highly adaptable to control boxes configured with various push buttons and indicator lamps. Using a pre-assembled cable with the M12 plug (8-pin connection block) for user access, the digital I/O multi module can support up to four cylinder/valve combinations with integrated sensors (2 inputs and 2 outputs per socket). While the Sub-D and M8 configurations of the module are capable of providing IP65 protection, the spring-loaded cage clamp configuration of the connection block offers a fast and convenient method of connecting pig-tailed cables inside a control panel with IP20 protection. 

CPX terminals are so versatile, that by means of a pneumatic interface module, Festo's highly integrated CPA 10 and CPA 14 Compact Series, and the field-proven Midi/Maxi Series valves can be assembled into standalone manifolds, which can be operated with any of the fieldbus protocols supported. The two CPA type valves can have up to 22 coils, while Midi/Maxi configurations can have up to 26 coils for applications where higher flow rates are necessary. 
The diagnostic capability of CPX terminals with pneumatic interface includes load voltage of the valves, short circuit solenoid coils, broken wires (quiescent current detection method) is capable of monitoring coil status, including missing coils and short circuit in the valve system.
Compared to the competition, the CPX has resolved many of the problems typically encountered in implementing "block I/O products," including those associated with communications with third party peripheral products, preventive maintenance diagnostics, customized I/O (input filter pulse, signal stretching, recovery from short circuit, hold or default for outputs and solenoids); scalable 11/12-bit analog I/O, and standalone capability for I/O capability.

New from KV is the "Ultraline" range of pneumatic Rodless cylinders, offering a wide variety of user friendly options and configurations.

With rodless cylinders now becoming widely accepted as a competitive advantage and offering space saving benefits over standard pneumatic cylinders, the new "Ultraline" rodless program incorporates several innovative and user driven features including smooth slow speed operation, very low leak rates, minimal breakout pressure, extended cushioning, flexible

hybrid seal technologies, KV have been able to develop a unique sealing
system which provides low leak rates and minimal breakout pressures, which

The new RexMover rodless pneumatic cylinder incorporates several innovative, user-driven features including a robust design, high-speed capability (up to 16 feet per second), virtually leak free operation, and user-friendly installation and maintenance. An oval-shaped piston design allows greater resistance to side load, and saves space due to a low overall height. The user benefits from three choices of air connections - on the side at both ends, on the rear of the end covers, or on one end cover. New Hyde Park, NY -- Two new rotary actuators from Techno-Sommer Automatic feature the ability to rotate in 4 adjustable steps plus their compact sizes. Rotary actuators are commonly used in automation applications as ratchet drives for rotary tables, as rotators for a robot arms, for opening and closing valves, for tilting containers, for rotating components for insertion, etc. These step rotor units consists of an outer and inner vane. The outer vane and the stop of the inner vane are a single piece. The position of the inner vane therefore determines the position of the shaft. Norgren's servo controlled ISO cylinder offers highly accurate positioning

Norgren, world leader in pneumatic components and automation systems, has expanded the popular RA/8000 ISO/VDMA cylinder range with the launch of a servo-controlled cylinder.

Unlike ordinary cylinders, the servo-controlled model offers exact
positioning of the piston through an electrical or pneumatic control
signal, ensuring that it will be accurately held in any desired position, even under changing load conditions.

Applications for the highly versatile cylinder include open and closed loop process control systems in a number of demanding industrial areas, such as temperature control or pressure regulation in power stations, chemical plants, gas works, food processing, steel works and paper mills. The Peters Indu - Produkt DDS Differential Pressure Switch is a compact device used in place of proximity switches in order to sense the end of stroke and/or clamping pressure of a linear actuator. 

The basic working principle of the DDS is that port "A" and "B" connect in the pressure line anywhere between the actuator and the valve. Using two highly accurate

ceramic pressure sensors, the pressures are compared electronically within the DDS. These ceramic pressure sensors allow a high temperature stable measurement, and are unaffected by high overpressure or pressure peaks.

Extremely consistent and repeatable proximity sensing based on reference

pressure (from exhaust line) and dependent pressure (from input line) bring

an added dimension to end of stroke sensing. The DDS is unaffected by

changes in stroke length since it's sensing is based on pressure. The DDS

sensor lends itself well to applications requiring tactile type sensing.

Trip points are adjustable based on forces applied by the actuator. This

unit is especially useful for clamping various size work pieces, for spot

welding applications or where electronic magnetic proximity devices need to

be constantly re-calibrated if the application requires changing trip

points. Installation does not require specialized cylinders (i.e. magnetic

pistons, special flanged end caps, specialized keyways, or aluminum barrels)

and works especially well on short stroke cylinders.

Flairline AO-Series Air/Oil tanks provide customers with a means to benefit from the smooth control of hydraulic oil using existing shop air. 

Pressurizing the tank from one end with existing shop air provides hydraulic fluid out the opposite end into the cylinder. The cylinder speed can be controlled with the use of flow controls to adjust exhausting fluid from the cylinder.

Internally the tank has 2 baffles, one on each end. These reduce aeration of the hydraulic fluid when leaving the tank and when pressurized at the opposite end. The cylinder barrel is made of a translucent, wound fiberglass and epoxy composite.

NEW “SMART� VALVE POSITIONER MEANS EASY CONFIGURATION AND LOWER MAINTENANCE

The newest version of the Siemens SIPART�, PS2 Series valve positioner is now available from the Process Industries Division of Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. New, premium diagnostic capabilities, including an actuator leak test, are now standard on all units. This allows the user to identify necessary preventive maintenance actions before a problem occurs. The diagnostic information is also easily accessible through the local faceplate.  In addition to a standard auto-tuning feature, the PS2 will self-diagnose system changes and continue to optimize the tuning parameters in order to maintain valve performance, even with changes in actuator supply pressure and valve friction.

  The upgraded PS2 valve positioner will provide communication capabilities through either PROFIBUS-PA� or HART� protocols, and can also be operated through a Windows-based HMI (human machine interface) with simple PC software. If manual operation of the valve positioner is preferred, simple configuration can also be accomplished using a built-in user interface with an intuitive menu structure, three push buttons, and an LCD display.

In the balanced condition, the PS2 positioner consumes virtually no air. This results in reducing electricity costs by decreasing the usage of compressed air. This design saves users over $900/year per valve compared to using conventional smart positioners.

  Other features include user-defined ramping; user-defined, tight shut-off and full open settings; seven pre-set flow characterization curves with a 21-point, user-defined custom flow characterization; user-defined split ranging; and a universal shaft for linear or rotary applications.
